Health starts in your mind

You can go to the gym, eat healthy, do yoga, drink water and take vitamins, but if you don’t directly confront the health of your thoughts, you will never truly be ‘healthy’.

Our health isn’t just measured on scales, by the size of our muscles or by the width of our waist. True health starts with the quality of our thoughts and the peacefulness of our mind.

One way to actively work on that is using affirmations. They are positively framed phrases that, when repeated regularly, can change negative thoughts and promote self-confidence.

Personally, I have made great experiences with using #affirmations as a form of self-help. I have four short affirmation sentences on my bathroom mirror, so I see them every morning and I really believe they have helped shift my mindset on certain topics.

They are:

I am strong.

I am confident.

I am worthy.

I am enough.

I also have an app called 'I am' which I definitely recommend. You can choose topics you want to work on, as well as how often you want to be prompted and the app will send push notifications to your screen with affirmations accordingly.

The latest on my screen said:

I am proud of myself for getting this far.

We spend a lot of time in gyms training our muscles and I strongly believe we would all benefit a lot from putting as much effort into training our minds. Of course, there are several situations where affirmations aren’t enough, but they are definitely a great start.

Do you have experience with using affirmations? What are your favourite ones?
